It's time for Lent! Bring your family, get your ashes, and make this the best Lent ever!

I hope families with smart phones or computers will take advantage of one of these three wonderful resources available for free to you this Lent.

Let us reflect on our "sins of omission"

02-11-2018From the PastorFr. Michael Straley

I just returned from Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos in El Salvador and Soledad came in my office to ask if I had a note for the bulletin. I looked at my calendar and said, "Oh no! It cannot be Lent already!" but of course, it will be starting this coming Wednesday.

While I was in El Salvador I was reading Pope Francis' book, the Joy of the Gospel, and many thoughts came to me about Lent. Of course, Lent is a time of fasting, prayer, and alms-giving, but Pope Francis also reminds us that some of our most serious sins are "sins of omission", not so much the things we have done, but the things we have failed to do. That is worth considering during this Holy Season of Lent.

Galatians: Free in Christ

02-09-2018Book ReviewKevin Perrotta

Greetings! Time at work, family obligations and commitments to friends may interfere with your desire to attend Bible study.  It is understandable. The pace of daily life is a green light with only rare glimpses of the red stop sign, but your friends and fellow parishioners at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Glendale invite you to come when you can. Welcome.

Remember the miracles God has done in your life

02-04-2018Faith and FamilyLani Bogart

Can you imagine yourself in the crowd at the door of Simon Peter's house? Jesus healed Simon and Andrew's mother-in-law and so many sick and demon possessed people the townspeople brought to him. Imagine being a witness to it all; blind people could see again, the deaf could hear, and the lame could jump and dance for joy! It must have been exhilarating. I wonder how long it took before the excitement began to fade? When did they return to "life as usual"? Did they knowingly ignore the longing that is in every heart to be near him, or did they just get distracted by other things?

A busy weekend ahead of us

02-04-2018From the PastorFr. Michael Straley

Next weekend is another very busy weekend. Of course, this is OLPH-Glendale! We will begin our annual Charity Development Appeal. As you know, this helps fund those offices in the diocese that reach out and help parishes and other Catholic organizations in our diocese. For a parish like ours that depends on so much volunteer help, these offices help to educate our volunteers.

02-04-2018Holy Catholic Marriage

"Work out your salvation in fear and trembling" (Phil 2:12). This scripture quote is ignored by those who think salvation is a onetime decision. St. Paul knew that living the life Jesus taught is hard work, hence, this quote. Our toxic culture presents marriage as a fun adventure with a fun partner. The idea that marriage is for sanctification is a foreign concept.
